The Wisdom of Napoleon Hill - Book Review: Think and Grow Rich

I really never heard of Mr. Napoleon Hill before but I got interested in one of the book I saw being read by one of my seatmate on my bus ride to home a month ago - Think and Grow Rich.I got curious with  it and made some research on this book through the Internet in which it was a bestseller. I believe this was predecessors (or Father) of most of the personal success, motivation and self-help books being printed and sold in major bookstores.

Who is Napoleon Hill and what he really do?
According to the Wikipedia link, Napoleon Hill (October 26, 1883 – November 8, 1970) was an American author who was one of the earliest producers of the modern genre of personal-success literature. His most famous work, Think and Grow Rich, is one of the best-selling books of all time. Hill's works examined the power of personal beliefs, and the role they play in personal success. He became the adviser to President Franklin D. Roosevelt from 1933-36. "What the mind of man can conceive and believe, it can achieve" is one of Hill's hallmark expressions.

What does this book can do and help you with?
I am still reading it in the process but I was so amazed on how this book can boost your self-confidence on what you want to do in life in which is giving you an insight what you can concieve and putting on that mindset or thought of getting it and achieving it. It has the same principles as what most of the new authors or writers as their basis and inspiration with the fact they are also sharing their experiences and knowledge in helping the average person who needed this revitalized energy of living a day in a triumphant existence in which it have made a great impact  who ever anyone read it. This is the first of all the books that have personal success being published worldwide back in 1937.

I have added some video clips from Youtube which are only a few short segment you can watch on even if this in black and white. It is still interesting and useful.

Points to Ponder: The 48 Laws of Power by Robert Greene and Joost Elffers

Recently, I stumble upon a forum of thinking people in the internet. Expressing their narrative thoughts and ideas on what they have in mind. Especially the thought of empowering themselves. I was really impressed with these intellectuals when they one of them has a signature on 48 Laws of Power which was a book written by Robert Greene and Joost Effler. I got curious with it and ask the these anonymous individual on what these books was. Eventually he explained a little bit of it and said that it is better if you read and comprehend the book.

There are some points or laws that are easily explainable and very relating to everyone's behavior which is applicable in reality. It is really happening on our everyday lives and anywhere you go or stay. The narratives are somehow frank, straight to the point, no holds barred explanation or sometimes very deep in understanding about the authors ideas. Here are few summary with my interpretation on the laws being applied to:

As what most people say it is a dog eat dog world in a very cutthroat competition. Somehow it is contradicting to religious belief, moral principles of civilized people but is still happening. As I say it is hard to accept but it is the TRUTH. Anyways, I found a video on Youtube that can be viewed here however it is recommended to buy the book at your bookstore and see for yourself.

Book Review: Rule # 1 by Phil Town

A few months ago, while attending a free seminar in Investing in Stock Market courtesy of Mr. Juanis Barredo, Vice President of CitisecOnline / Citi Securities, Inc. who introduced us to a lots of concept in this type of investment. It was not a get rich quick scheme but creating awareness on this type of investment where people never had engaged on. He gave us some list of books to read and ponder before going to stock trading until he recommended to us Rule # 1 by Phil Town.

Who is this Phil Town? I never heard of him in my entire life. I became wonder what this author does so I decided to research first before buying this book and eventually went to the closest specialty bookstore like Powerbooks in SM Megamall and was priced at more than a 1,000 pesos for a hardbound. I only need a softbound copy which cost a fraction of that at PhP 695.00 at the nearby National Bookstore. I am happy and content on finding a copy of Phil Town's book.

Before becoming a famous author and investor, Phil Town was a former Special Forces soldier in the U.S. Army who served during the Vietnam war of late 1960s to early 1970s. After his tour in 'Nam, he returned to the United States to find out that many people despise the troops coming home and have unwelcoming remarks due to the anti-war sentiments on that period. With no work and having difficulties adjusting to civilian life, he did odd-jobs at that time until he became a river guide at the Colorado river with a outdoor tour company called Three Rivers (see Video).

RULE # 1: DO NOT LOSE YOUR MONEY! - as what Mr. Phil Town said

A rule that Mr. Phil Town has kept on his mind in a very long time and has been telling the readers ever since the conception of his book, Rule #1. The same principle as what Warren Buffett does.

Understanding first the company that interests you and analyzing their pros and cons in investing in them by establishing the MOAT.

Checking out the internet and find the gems which were thrown to the trash. Markets are harsh but somehow you can find a good find on those companies that can generate income in the future years.

The Secret: the knowledge is now revealed and passed on to you!

Recently got hold of a DVD from a friend. I went curious with the DVD he had given and went on watching it the other day on my free time. Well, I got amazed with those simple thought can turn everything into reality. Yes, this is true with the positive visualization of the outcome of the event you want to achieve can possibly come true as what athletes are doing before competing but still the best part of all this is the action that should be taken in order for the dream to actually take place. Rhonda Byrne's book have taken a storm.

The Law of Attraction in the universe.

In the DVD or the book, you can read or watch the interviews from different people who have shared their secret to success from Jack Canfield of Chicken Soup for the Soul book series,

Simple thoughts of positive thinking will attract positive outcome on what you want in your life.

Still try to remember that:

A THOUGHT / DREAM / INSPIRATION (5%) + ACTION (95%) = SUCCESS / REALITY (It may not be the perfect outcome but it will close to what you dream of or better than you have in your mind)!

I have also added "The Secret to you...a Gift from the Secret Scrolls" courtesy of www.thesecret.tv. In this is way you can view this over and over and get yourself inspired in building those thoughts and dreams in your life you want to achieve and strive hard to have.

Book Review: Sikreto ng Mga Mayayaman by Al Sembrano

One of the best financial literacy book I have ever read. Even if he share his personal experience as a poor young boy from Mindanao. Mr. Sembrano was really keen on learning the long road to financial success where he is right now in being a financial analyst with major banking companies in the United States and eventually retiring early to making a one masterpiece of 10 series books.

The author's objective is to bring back to the basics of financial education and planning to readers with better understanding. It was very practical compared to the other books of Filipino writers. This books empowers everyone who reads it with knowledge from getting a job, creating wealth from small to big proportions and starting business. It also has inspirational wherein the author share his life's experiences that led him to success. This book is applicable to all Filipinos who want to live a prosperous life.

A Millionaire Mind: T. Harv Eker

I was able to glimpse of book on T. Harv Eker's Secret's of a Millionaire Mind. It was a small paperback book on National Bookstore. In my compulsive buying of wealth building books this is a definite gold mine of information for me in achieving that success in life. In the first few pages, the author describes the psychology or way of thinking of some folks on what they say regarding rich people, the middle class and the poor people especially how they describe themselves in a way and also how they perceive money.

Most Pinoys think of money as a thing to dispose immediately, they never think of the long term goal, always the short term due to impatience and the mindset of earning quick buck as they seldom think of their future. Filipinos always blame and make scapegoats of the government, the church, other people etc. They need to think first before blaming everybody. I know that we are not going anywhere if we blame everybody. We assess ourselves, plan and later take immediate action in resolving the problems.

Most Pinoys do not save a portion of their money which is essential for their future. A sample of things essential and necessity are basic life insurance, fruitful retirement fund, allocation and diversification of wealth through passive income and others. The fact is that, we need to change our spending habits, avoiding temptation of compulsive buying or things we do not really need and feel guilty in the end so we need to differentiate the needs from wants.

Financial reprogramming ( Your Money Blueprint) - changing the way of thinking on how we perceive money is the answer if you act on it. Did you know that the rich people are working more hours than the average person is. Rich people are determined to be rich if they work smartly and hard. Did you know that rich people also admire other rich people because they get inspired to be like them on what they are today.

In an article last month on Philippine Star's front page column. There is an article that caught my attention. Does Money buy you happiness? A lot of people say "YES" but isn't this ironic for all that money is not the solution to all of this madness in our world. 85% would still prefer health than money because "in good health you can still create wealth".

As I was reading throughly through its pages, T. Harv Eker included Wealth files in guiding the reader on the things he/she needs to ponder of. Included also are the inspirational story of few of T. Harv Eker's students who attended the seminar on the Millionaire Mind in the United States and Canada. I know there is no Millionaire Mind Intensive Seminar like in the North America but someone would come up with this and bring it to the our shores here in the Philippines. I would definitely would like to attend this seminar.

The Think Rich Pinoy Experience

I recently have attended the February 17, 2008 Think Rich Pinoy Seminar at PhilAm Life Building in Ma. Orosa Street, Ermita, Manila. It was an event I cannot forget that changed my life. Wealth building through real estate by flipping foreclosed properties is one shot deal that can generate income for you and your loved ones. There are pros and cons in real estate but this one could get you rich in no time at all.

Dr. Gamboa and others like him have dream of making one million rich Filipinos by 2010. It maybe impossible but with proper attitude and mentoring anyone can be a millionaire by that time. "We do not have to go abroad and keep our country's economy afloat with our skilled OFWs leaving our shores and working hard to both ends meet, we can make entreprenuers of our OFWs as what Dr. Gamboa", said in his statement.

Financial education through real estate and other income generating schemes can arm every Filipinos with the knowledge of wealth building and at the same create passive income for their benefit. The investments made will work for them in no time.

One of the most notable real investor in this type of business was Robert Kiyosaki, author of the Rich Dad, Poor Dad and co-author of other Rich Dad series of books who inspired Dr. Gamboa into this type of business and serves as his inspiration in creating a book called "Think Rich Pinoy". Think Rich Pinoy is an adapted version of the Rich Dad, Poor Dad for Filipinos to understand. The principle of flipping property and its concept are still the same but simplified.

I have read the book since last year and at the same time bought one of his book follow up, Grow Rich Pinoy, which emphasizes on flipping properties with little or no money at all plus with the help of course of rehabbers, lenders and other private investors by using Other People's Money (OPM) concept.

I have met other people who are still in the rat race who want to be investors and entrepreneurs and owning their own business. Dr. Gamboa emphasizes the empowerment of every Filipinos to financial freedom. It was a good thing that I met Dr. Larry Gamboa, Ph.D. himself on the flesh and maybe in the future would be a future franchisee of Think Rich Pinoy.
